The MVCSC is proud to announce that Superintendent Dr. Jack Parker has been named the 2024 Superintendent of the Year for District V by members of the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS). District V includes Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion, and Shelby counties. Area superintendents selected Dr. Parker based on the nominees’ qualifications, accomplishments and impact on their school community.
All five schools in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation have again earned a Highley Effective Schools Accreditation from Solution Tree. This accreditation is a significant achievement that reflects the commitment of all five schools to teaching and maintaining the highest levels of educational quality.
Ms. Ashley Gustin has been selected as the new principal of Mt. Vernon Intermediate School. Ms. Gustin comes to Mt. Vernon from South Madison Community Schools as an assistant principal at Pendleton Heights Middle School. In addition to her depth of qualifications and leadership skills, she also has experience opening an intermediate school with 1,100 students at Anderson Community Schools.
Mrs. Haley Frischkorn, MVCSC English Language Coordinator, is one of three fortunate teachers in Hancock County to be selected for the Lilly Endowment Inc. Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program. This fellowship program provides a select few Indiana teachers up to $15,000 allowing them to explore new opportunities that will inspire them and help in their teaching career. The grant is to fund teachers a renewal project to be renewed in their students’ education and experiences in the classroom through their teaching. Frischkorn plans to visit notable sites in New Zealand with her family to see their imaginations come to life. She has titled this plan, “There and Back Again: A Teacher’s Tale- Reignite the imagination by journeying through Middle Earth.”
