A message from the Principal

Dear MES Families,

We are so grateful for our amazing MES PTO and all they’ve done both over the summer and this school year! Thanks to their generosity, we now have a brand-new book vending machine, a beautifully renovated conference room, teacher stipends for classroom supplies, breakfast and snacks for our staff, and extra helping hands to guide our students during arrival and dismissal. I’m sure there are many more “behind-the-scenes” contributions we haven’t even seen!
Please join us in supporting our PTO by attending their first public meeting of the school year on Wednesday, August 20, in the MES Library. We’d love to see you there at 6PM!

Have a great weekend!

Stephanie

News from the Library

Parents can pay for lost library books via MVCSC’s eFunds link. Click on PAY for Optional Fees, then choose Lost/Damaged Library Books. All books still overdue from last school year have been marked as lost and assessed their replacement fee. To save paper, weekly emails to parents will go out on Mondays at 10:00 am until the book is returned or payment has been made.. It’s not too late to return books from last year! Thank you for helping us get our library books back! We’re making progress, but still have several that are overdue from last year. Exact change and/or a check made out to MES are also accepted. Thank you for your support.

Body Safety Information

Dear McCordsville Families

In Indiana, Child Abuse Prevention Education is mandated in all public schools. Zoey's Place Child Advocacy Center is providing the child abuse prevention education for Mt. Vernon Community Schools during the 2025-2026 school year. If you would like more information about the child abuse prevention education that will be implemented at your student's school, Zoey's Place Child Advocacy Center has organized a virtual meeting to be held on Thursday, August 21, at 6:30 pm. This meeting will provide additional information about the MBF Child Safety Matters program. The program is designed to educate students on personal safety, types of child abuse, and overall digital dangers.

Attached, you will find the parent invitation to attend the virtual meeting on Thursday, August 21, at 6:30 pm. For parents who are unable to participate virtually, a recorded session will be available for your review.

McCordsville Elementary School's Body Safety presentation is scheduled for September 8 and September 9. For more information, visit www.mbfpreventioneducation.org to learn about the program and other available resources. If you do not want your child to participate, please contact the school counselor, Jennifer Brown, at jennifer.brown@mvcsc.k12.in.us, via direct message through Parent Square, or call 317-336-7760, ext. 7106. I appreciate your support in keeping our students safe!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Brown

Mt. Vernon Background Checks

To prepare for the 2025–2026 school year, we ask that all volunteers and chaperones complete a background check for when you plan to volunteer either on a field trip or in the classroom. Please use the link below to submit your background check form. Once this is complete, it will last for the remainder of the school year.

Snacks

Please remember to send your child in with a snack and water bottle everyday.

Thank you!

Reminder - Drop off and Pick up Procedures

If you are bringing your child to school in the morning, please drop off your child at the front drop off area beginning at 7:15 a.m.

Please enter school grounds via the back entrance on 700N. Pull all the way around and there will be staff to direct you to pull forward. They will also be there to assist your child out of the car. Parents should not get out of the car.

AM Only - When exiting the school, you may only head North (turn right) on 600W.

Please remember that you must come in to sign a student in and out of school if it is after 7:35 am or before 2:05 pm. They could be considered tardy if this procedure is not followed.

The back gate opens at 1:30 for pick-up. Do not park on the grass or anywhere on 700N. We use a cone/number system to make sure students are safe.

Please display car rider numbers during pick up.

Remain in line until you are at the end of the car rider line. Do not pull around cars.

Pull over at the end of the line if you need to buckle in your child.

Please try to let the office know of any dismissal changes no later than 1:30pm, unless there is an emergency.

 Please follow all procedures.

Thank you.

REMINDER:  Students are considered TARDY if they are not in their classroom at 7:35 a.m.
