A message from the Principal

Dear MES Families,

I-READ 3 will begin March 3 and continue through March 5. If your child will participate in this assessment, you received a letter yesterday from me.

We have been lucky to go outside for recess this week! With that comes a lot of leftover sweatshirts, coats, hats, water bottles and so much more! If your child is missing something, come on in and check out our lost and found. All items leftover will be donated at spring break.

There is no school on Monday, January 16 for President's Day and again on Tuesday, January 17 for staff professional development.

Have a great weekend!

Stephanie

News from the Library

This week our library was transformed into a stellar learning space as Mrs. Fager took all our students on a journey through the universe in the Digitarium! During library class, students had the opportunity to explore the planets in a captivating and immersive environment. Do you know which planet has the most rings? You may be surprised that it is NOT Saturn!  Ask your student about what they learned this week in the Digitarium!

Thank you, Mrs. Fager, for making learning about space such an out of this world adventure!

Student of the Month

Great job to all our January,  Student of the Month!

 Huge Congratulations!

Adoption of new Social Studies

Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is considering the adoption of new social studies and FACS textbooks for the upcoming school year.  The textbook adoption committee is recommending the below resources.  Parents and community members may preview the resources in the administration building's main office between the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm until March 9th.  The school corporation intends to seek board approval to purchase the resources at the March 9, 2026, school board meeting.

The committee is recommending Savvas Learning’s social studies textbooks for 5th grade, 7th grade Social Studies courses, and HS courses consisting of US History, World History, Econ., and History and Geography of the World. The committee recommends BFW Publishing’s textbook for AP Psychology.  The FACS (Family and Consumer Science) department is recommending the G-W Publishers textbook for the new IDOE course Fundamentals of Human Services.

Please direct any comments, questions, or concerns to Dr. Scott Shipley at scott.shipley@mvcsc.k12.in.us or 317-485-3100.

Reminder - Drop off and Pick up Procedures

If you are bringing your child to school in the morning, please drop off your child at the front drop off area beginning at 7:10 a.m.

Please enter school grounds via the back entrance on 700N. Pull all the way around and there will be staff to direct you to pull forward. They will also be there to assist your child out of the car. Parents should not get out of the car.

AM Only - When exiting the school, you may only head North (turn right) on 600W.

Please remember that you must come in to sign a student in and out of school if it is after 7:35 am or before 2:05 pm. They could be considered tardy if this procedure is not followed.

The back gate opens at 1:30 for pick-up. Do not park on the grass or anywhere on 700N. We use a cone/number system to make sure students are safe.

Please display car rider numbers during pick up.

Remain in line until you are at the end of the car rider line. Do not pull around cars.

Pull over at the end of the line if you need to buckle in your child.

Please try to let the office know of any dismissal changes no later than 1:30pm, unless there is an emergency.

 Please follow all procedures.

Thank you.
