A message from the Principal

Dear MES Families,

We are in the midst of our school-wide fundraiser! Funds raised help support teacher needs, student programs and supports, and even helps offset the cost of field trips.

And don’t forget, if we reach our $25,000 goal, Mr. Edwards and Mrs. Miller will kiss a pig!

Thank you for your amazing support of MES!

Labor Day weekend is upon us, which means there is NO SCHOOL on Monday.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

Stephanie

News from the Library

Please ask your student(s) what day they visit the library! We have several students forgetting library books, and while we have books for those students to read while in the library, not returning books means they cannot check out new books. Having a designated spot for library books at home is also a great idea so they don’t get lost.

Body Safety

Our school will partner with the Monique Burr Foundation to implement its comprehensive, research-based prevention program, MBF Child/Teen Safety Matters®. On September 8 and 9, a trained facilitator from Zoey's Place Advocacy Center will visit classrooms to deliver a fun, engaging, age- and developmentally appropriate lesson that teaches students how to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to child abuse and digital dangers.  Parents will receive information and materials as students participate in the lessons. To learn more about the program, you can visit their website at www.mbfpreventioneducation.org or watch the ZP Prevention Parent Video.

***If you do not want your child to participate, please fill out
the form below and return it to the school counselor, Jennifer Brown.  K-5th Participation Form

Please get in touch with Jennifer Brown at jennifer.brown@mtvernonschools.org with questions or concerns.

Thank you!

Lost and Found

It's very early in the year and we have items in our lost and found. If your child is missing anything, please have them take a look or feel free to come and take a look yourself.

Lost and found items will be donated during fall break.

Hancock County Attendance Protocol

All Hancock County schools—Greenfield Central Community School Corporation, Eastern Hancock Community School Corporation, New Palestine Community Schools, and Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation—have adopted a unified attendance protocol. These procedures have been approved by the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hancock County Probation Office to ensure consistency and compliance across all school corporations. The purpose of these attendance measures is to support regular student attendance and to prevent students from reaching the following thresholds:

● Habitual Truancy: Ten (10) or more unexcused absences in a school year
● Chronic Absenteeism: Missing ten percent (10%) or more of the school year for any reason (approximately eighteen [18] total days)
To read more about the new Attendance policy for all Hancock County Schools, click on the handbook below (pages 8-12):
